Introducing ‘The F1RST Register’ Launched 1st week in May

 What is The F1RST Register?

The ‘F1RST Register’ has been created to recognise and reward excellence in the advanced driving and riding tests. Modelled on a first class degree, First is awarded to those candidates who achieve a score of ‘1’ in every category of the advanced test (or, at the discretion of the Examiner who may recommend a candidate if they have a ‘2’ in certain categories**) and who are recommended for recognition by their IAM Examiner.

Who can qualify for F1RST Registration?

Associates who achieves all ‘1’ scores in their advanced test become a F1RST member.

Existing IAM members who take and complete a member’s driving/riding assessment and achieve a score of all ‘1’ will also qualify.

Police Advanced Drivers achieve exemption and automatic entry as a first member

Current Members who achieved a score of all ‘1’ in their test taken within the last three years will also be invited to join the F1RST Register retrospectively. There are no limits to the number of times a member can take a test or assessment in order to try and achieve F1RST

How we recognise and reward F1RST members

- A special ‘F1RST Register’ certificate

- A F1RST logo on their IAM membership card

- Entry onto the online F1RST Register on www.iam.org.uk/f1rst

- Discounts on IAM events including Skills Days

- Entry to the ‘advanced’ level of IAM motorcycle Skills Days (TBC)

- An invitation to join the IAM as an Observer (TBC)

How much does it cost? There are no additional costs required to become a F1RST member. The membership fee is the standard amount and the cost for a test (£65), retest (£35) or member’s assessment (£35) are also the standard fees.

How to find out more about the F1RST Register.F1RST has been designed to be simple and easy to understand and access. Please visit www.iam.org.uk/F1RST to find out more, to apply or to peruse the Register of members.

The contact point for any questions, issues or clarification on F1RST is Paul Woozley, IAM Membership Development Manager x 656.

Free assessment drives available to all Group Members

Your Senior Observers thought it was time to remind you of the free service that is available all our group members.

Most of us think we have “been there, done that and got the ‘T’ shirt” or, in our case, the IAM Certificate proudly displayed on the wall. It is however difficult to maintain those standards over even a relatively short period of time. Therefore we are offering you the opportunity for a free assessment drive, during which time you can brush up on any aspect of your driving. Whether it be practicing a commentary, brushing up on cornering techniques or general motoring.  This is not a pass or fail situation, there is NO TEST, just an assessment for your information and peace of mind with the reassurance of advanced driving principals.  What is the point of saying that we are advanced drivers if we are not prepared to continue to advance? These drives can be arranged by contacting either of your groups Nationally Qualified Senior Observers Kim Clark & Rob Blackshaw.

Please note that some groups do charge for this opportunity.

Win a £20 Gift Voucher           Attendance Voucher reward scheme to continue 2011

We started this scheme at the beginning of 2010 and two of our members qualified for £20 gift vouchers, Rachel Smith was presented at the Christmas meeting with a voucher for B&Q and Reg. Melton will be presented with his book voucher at a later date. It has been decided that we will continue with the scheme, starting at the January meeting. To qualify you must be a member of the Dewsbury & Batley Group IAM, attend 10 monthly meetings, and there is a slight change as Peter Rowley had great difficulty this time reading some of your signatures so this time you MUST sign in the membership book AND print your name so that it can be easily read in order to be eligible. Please note that the committee members are not entitled to enter. We look forward to seeing you throughout the coming year.

At last cheaper car Insurance for 19years old and over. As part of its campaign to address the most at-risk drivers on our roads – young drivers – the IAM  has provided an incentive for young drivers to be safer. IAM Surety Insurance, offered exclusively to IAM members via Adelaide Insurance, has until now been targeted at drivers aged 21 and above. From this month IAM Advanced Drivers aged 19 or over driving a low-grouped car can benefit from reduced car insurance. Parents trying to get their son or daughter insured will know that car insurance for young drivers is expensive and difficult to acquire. With the papers citing frequent examples of recklessness and inexperience, many safe and responsible young drivers get tarred with the same brush, having to pay very high insurance premiums. However, although they make up only 9% of the driving population, under-25s are involved in almost a quarter of all crashes that cause death and injury. To turn these statistics around, a concerted effort is needed by motoring organisations, governments and the drivers themselves – this incentive is a key step towards safer roads for everybody. By offering lower premiums to drivers aged 19 years or above who have passed an advanced driving test, the IAM is supporting the group that needs it most. Simon Best, IAM Chief Executive, said: “The insurance industry has been quick to penalise young drivers, but is much slower to do anything to help improve their driving standards. By introducing a financial incentive, IAM Surety is going some way towards improving young drivers’ skills and behaviour on the road, and investing in their driver education at a time when they need it most.”
