IAM 'Momentum, DriveCheck' & 'DriveCheck55'
Momentum The IAM assessment designed exclusively for under 26 year old car drivers .
So, you’ve passed your driving
test and the last thing you want to think about is another test. You’re a pretty
good driver and you definitely don’t need L plates any more but you know that
sometimes you end up in situations where your driving skills are challenged.
Maybe it’s when you’re on a night out with a car full of mates and it’s your
turn to be the designated driver. Everyone’s fired up for the night and having a
laugh but you know you still need to keep focused on the road as well as the
banter. This is when Momentum steps in. The results of the recent IAM
“Young Drivers – where and when they are unsafe” research indicates that
young drivers (aged 17-25) are the most vulnerable group on our roads and are
the most “at risk” group of road users likely to be killed or seriously injured
Momentum is NOT a test
Step 1 - An online assessment that
can be completed in the comfort of your own home prior to your on road
assessment date. It helps to assess the environment in which you typically drive
and gets a handle on your attitude to road risks.
Step 2 - A 60 minute on-road, general assessment by a qualified IAM examiner. At
the end of the drive you will receive a copy of the completed assessment form.
The result? You are more able to keep your focus and enjoy the journey, even if
the pressure is on.
Momentum is only £40 and you can buy online by visiting iam.org.uk
DriveCheck is a driving assessment. This is an ideal way to find out how good your driving really is and how to get a lot more from your driving. If you don't like the thought of taking a driving test then this is the route for you.It offers a uniquely enjoyable self-learning experience by providing the opportunity to have your driving ability assessed by an IAM observer. Your Drivecheck assessment will help remind you of some good driving procedures, identify a few bad habits and give a measured feeling of confidence on our increasingly busy roads. Drive check is not , however , a test. there is no pass or fail. Take advantage of DriveCheck and make all your journeys safer and more enjoyable for you and your passengers. If you then would like to continue and learn more you can enrol in the skill for life programme.
It's an assessment that follows an accompanied drive, where your observer will comment on and discuss your driving performance with you, offering advice and making recommendations, where appropriate. You will be given a comprehensive report on the day written by the Observer.
The drive is taken in your own vehicle, time and location to be mutually agreed and undertake to produce
a current full driving licence (both parts if a photocard type), held for at lease three months.
a roadworthy vehicle with which to take the assessment
the vehicles current certificate of insurance, or evidence of insurance under a block scheme
an MOT certificate (where applicable)
and declare that your eyesight meets the minimum legal requirements.
please note that the Observer reserves the right to decline to conduct an assessment if any of these conditions is not complied with.
The DriveCheck assessment includes an on-road drive lasting about 40 minutes, plus a one-to-one advice and discussion session with your observer for approximately 20 minutes
Because the IAM is a registered charity we only seek to cover our costs. Your Drive Check assessment costs only £25.
If you are interested in developing your driving skills, you can enrol on an IAM 'Skill for life' programme, which leads to the Advanced Driving test.

THE NEW DRIVECHECK 55 (introduced November 2009)
A recent IAM policy and Research report, Older & Wiser revels that on one hand, older drivers are as safe as middle-aged drivers and much safer than younger drivers. They are less likely to speed, commit offences, and tend to drive more cautiously. However, aging creates inevitable vulnerabilities that we may not be aware of. The accumulation of a lifetimes driving experience is a valuable asset, but a proactive approach to improving your skills is hugely beneficial.
So the IAM has launched this new service for the older driver who feels they need the reassurance of a driver check-up to boost their confidence. DriveCheck55 offers the older driver a relaxed one-hour session with a qualified IAM examiner. The aim is to remind older drivers of good procedures and principals that may have lost their relevance over the years.
There is NO TEST-No PASS OR FAIL, just the reassurance of advanced driving principals.
DriveCheck 55 costs just £35 See 'HOW DO I JOIN ABOVE' or go to iam.org.uk
